Landfill

Safe sink for waste that cannot be recycled

For the past thirty years, Indaver has been safely storing (in a safe sink) residual waste that cannot be recycled, reused or incinerated. In 2019, we incorporated our expertise and experiences in terms of waste disposal, sustainable management, and the entire lifecycle of landfill sites into the Business Line Landfill and Minerals. We aim to share our knowledge about the remediation, redevelopment, final capping, and management of landfill sites with other regions within and outside the European Union.

Indaver primarily ensures that our customers within its work area are guaranteed continual and safe landfill capacity. At the same time, foreign governments can call on the expertise of Indaver for their transition to more responsible storage of waste streams. On top of our safe sink activities, we clean and supply mineral materials within the circular economy.

Our landfills

for waste that cannot be recycled

The final part of sustainable waste management is landfill. Here, Indaver safely stores (in a safe sink) the waste products that cannot be recycled, reused, or incinerated.

One of our main priorities is to secure the continuity of landfill capacity.  Indaver owns three landfill sites in the Netherlands. Two of them, Stainkoeln and Afvalberging Noord- en Midden-Zeeland (Waste Storage North and Mid-Zeeland), are operational. The third, now called Merwedeheuvel, is in the middle of its transformation from a landfill site to a recreation area. We also have two landfills, Hooge Maey, and 3 Valleien, in Belgium. Both countries have put a stop to landfill capacity.

Project management

Our knowledge at your disposal

Landfills have an important function in the Sustainable Waste Management chain and circular economy. They are well-engineered and managed facilities for the disposal of (municipal) solid waste. Landfills are located, designed, operated, and monitored to ensure compliance with regulations. They are also designed to protect the environment from contaminants, which may be present in the waste chain, as a safe sink.

Indaver offers a total package. Foreign governments can call on our expertise for their transition to more responsible storage of waste streams. Besides, we also help with applying for the right European financial support that is required to get a sustainable landfill project off the ground and make it a success.

Mineral activities

Recycling of soil and mineral residues

Indaver’s ambition is to supply mineral secondary raw materials within the circular economy. We take on a mediating role for our customers, between supply and demand for soil, sludge, rubble, and other reusable construction materials. With our knowledge, expansive network and independent position, we do this in the most efficient and effective way possible.
