Indaver Belgium

Energy recovery

Indaver strives for rational energy consumption in all its operations, and restricts the use of primary fossil energy sources. In addition, we use innovative technologies where we can to recover energy from waste.

  • Indaver’s thermal facilities are getting closer and closer to being real power stations. Thanks to far-reaching energy recovery, most of our facilities barely use fossil fuels any more. On the contrary, they produce energy that we use in our processes or buildings, or supply to neighbouring businesses and households.
  • The new MediPower® facility for treating medical waste will deliver 2.5 MW of power through heat recovery in the steam boiler. Part of the energy recovered will be used for the heating of the buildings and elements of production and part will be supplied to the electricity grid.
  • Indaver treats biowaste to produce high-grade compost and biomass. The biomass is used in power stations as renewable energy, as a substitute for primary fuels.
  • At the Hooge Maey biogas is recovered from fermented organic material at the landfill site. Today enough power is being generated for around 4,800 families. Indaver intends to boost energy production even further through the use of new technologies, such as algae cultivation.
