In the ash treatment unit, the bottom ashes from the household incineration facilities are washed,
sieved and purified. The end product is a valuable secondary material that can be used for
several applications.
Ferrous and non-ferrous metals are carefully removed in various cut, sieve and wash units.
Some of those recuperated metals will be re-used in industry. Inert ashes remaining after
incineration are converted into granulates. These can be used as secondary materials in
the construction industry, in accordance with the relevant VLAREA regulations.
The ash treatment processes the bottom ash from the grate incinerators into various end products, which can be marketed or used.
Finally only 10% of the material remains from the ashes that must be dumped. The following materials are recovered:
Metals: both ferrous and non-ferrous metals (iron, aluminium, etc.) are marketed as a secondary raw material. Granulates are used in the construction sector, amongst other things for foundation works for roads and other constructions. Sand fraction is used for construction or stability applications at landfill sites.
